Last week, Nashville MMA had the honor of hosting renowned striking coach Bob Perez, and what an event it was! From start to finish, Bob emphasized the bedrock of all great striking—solid fundamentals—while weaving in those “little nuggets” of insider knowledge that took our techniques to the next level.
Not content to stop there, Bob then shifted from the seminar floor straight into the Octagon corner, coaching Derek “The Black Beast” Lewis to a spectacular first-round KO victory at UFC Fight Night.
Building from the Ground Up
Bob kicked things off by breaking down each fundamental technique: stance, footwork, guard position, and basic combinations. What could have been a routine review instead became a deep dive into the “why” behind every movement. By adding subtle tweaks—like adjusting hip alignment for more power or refining the timing of guard shifts—he showed how even the simplest drills could produce dramatic improvements in speed, balance, and accuracy.
“It was definitely an awesome seminar and I learned a lot,”
— Ariel Dominguez, Muay Practitioner
Ariel’s excitement was echoed across the gym as participants instantly felt the effects of these adjustments in their pad work and partner drills.
Personalized Coaching & Outstanding Assistants
What truly set this seminar apart was Bob’s hands-on approach. Rather than simply demonstrating from the front, he roamed the floor, offering personalized guidance to each fighter—whether seasoned competitors or newcomers. His assistants, equally knowledgeable and approachable, circled the room, ensuring that no question went unanswered and no technique went unpolished. This team effort created an environment where everyone felt seen, heard, and challenged.
Looking Ahead
We’re incredibly grateful to Bob Perez and his team for sharing their expertise and passion with our Nashville MMA family. This seminar wasn’t just a lesson in striking—it was a masterclass in how dedication to fundamentals, paired with expert insight, can elevate your craft both in the gym and at the highest levels of competition.
Stay tuned for upcoming events and be sure to apply these fundamentals in your next training session. If you missed this seminar, don’t worry—follow our social media channels for highlights, tips, and announcements of our next opportunity to train with the best!
