Monty Burks
Coach Monty Burks is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and former MMA competitor who brings a unique blend of high-level martial arts experience and community leadership to Nashville MMA. Known for his disciplined approach and mentorship mindset, Coach Burks is passionate about using martial arts as a tool for personal growth, resilience, and positive life change.
Beyond the mats, Dr. Burks has built a distinguished career serving communities across Tennessee. He previously served as Deputy Director of the Tennessee Governor’s Faith-Based and Community Initiative and as Director of Faith-Based Initiatives for the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, where he worked to expand access to recovery and behavioral health resources. With more than two decades of experience in the criminal justice field, he has also held roles with Motlow State Community College, Middle Tennessee State University, and Tennessee State University.
Coach Burks is dedicated to creating an environment where students of all levels can build confidence, sharpen their skills, and develop the mindset needed to succeed both in martial arts and in life.
