1st Diet pills!
You must stay away from diet pills. Sure, there are some diet pills that will HELP you lose weight, but let's face it, most diet pills simply boost your metabolism for a short time, and then you crash.
Remember Newton's Law of Motion? "For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction." Thus, most diet pills increase your energy for a short time, then you crash leaving you worn out. They speed up your metabolism for a while, followed by a decreased metabolism. They curb your appetite, followed by a craving for food. They often lead to a rapid loss of water and dehydration which can lead to heat stroke and most are just plain bad for your organs.
2nd Fad diets!
They come and go and have been around for years. No carb diets, high carb diets, no fat diets, yada yada yada.
Do they work?
Sure, for a short time. But then look out! All that weight you think you lost; you'll find it a few months later plus a little extra.
In a natural diet you eat carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. Fad diets tell you to cut out one of those (Adkins says no carbs) so when you cut all the carbohydrates out of your diet - you're cutting part of your natural calorie intake so sure, you'll lose some weight!
But you're body is designed to eat those carbs. Just like it's designed for protein and fat. Cutting out any one of these is like taking out a wall's support beam. There may still be 3 walls to hold up the building, but look out when the storm comes.
Eventually you WILL give in and eat those carbs (or protein/fat), and most likely will gain MORE weight.
Why? Fad diets screw up your metabolism.
Your metabolism is made to burn certain types of food just like a car burns a certain type of fuel.
But when you cut out certain basics from your diet . or cut way back on your calories your metabolism actually SLOWS down and enters starvation mode. Instead of burning the fuel in the gas tank, it actually slows down to conserve the fuel for a later time.
This makes losing weight MUCH harder especially since your metabolism slows down with age. You need to learn the proper way to eat AND exercise to keep your engine tuned and burning fat all day long.
